As professionals, students and post-grads alike, we strive to be the crème de la crème. We strive to produce flawless work, build meaningful relationships and stay ahead of (if not start) the trends in our field. This can make life hectic, especially when roadblocks occur. It’s important to take time for tranquility to better serve yourself and the work that you produce, even when you’re busy.
So, how can we find some peace in everyday life while surrounded by chaos? Well, I think we can learn a thing or two from our furry friends. Everyone, meet my furry friend, Max. He’s a purebred Shih Tzu and full-time relaxation professional. Let’s keep Max’s three relaxation tips in mind to help us get a little bit of tranquility in each day.
1. Stretch. I doubt anyone will look as adorable as Max while doing this, but it will make you feel better. Stretching helps loosen your muscle tension, and that in turn should help you feel a bit more relaxed.
2. Breathe. This seems like a no-brainer, but really take a second to let it out. Max sighs so loudly before he lies down. He’s on to something though. I can visibly see how much it relaxes him.
3. Practice Mindfulness. I always catch Max sitting and staring into space. Being the relaxation specialist he is, I’d like to think he’s taking a second to think about the moment and take it all in. You should, too. Sometimes planning ahead is great. However, don’t forget to focus on the present. This will help your stress of “What is next?” subside.
